The Dragon of Stromness is small, shy and remarkably docile. Recently hatched, it guards against ghosts and hostile fairy folk while watching over this ancient Viking settlement.

The Dragon of Stromness: morphology

This dragon is a reptile. In antiquity, dragons were mostly serpents. But, since the Middle Ages, they have developed legs and resemble a lizard.

In modern times, most dragons have a body like a huge lizard, or are snakes with two pairs of lizard-type legs, and are able to emit fire from their mouths. However, the European dragon has bat-like wings growing from its back. A dragon-like creature with wings but only a single pair of legs is known as a wyvern.
