The peak moment of my recent visit to Orkney has to be my friend Alette’s birthday swim around the island of Glimps Holm. It took more than two hours in wintery waters. At the start she was accompanied by English Channel relay swimmer Nicki. Hats off to both of them!
Peak moment; my role
My role was to be “shore cover” in case anything went wrong (which it didn’t). This involved keeping track of Alette by walking round the island, and using hand signals conveying “Are you OK? A fabulous day and a wonderful adventure! PS There was ice and snow on the ground.
