Spent Thursday evening at the Speakeasy, a monthly literary gathering organised by the very wonderful Words in Here at the English Bookshop. Great craic with Laura, Karen and Megan; Kai is back from Verweggistan; Robert is about to embark on a PhD somewhere in the States.

In a quiet moment, I glanced over my shoulder and espied my translation of Aletta Jacobs’ Herinneringen, resplendent on the central display area. Jacobs was Holland’s equivalent to Emmeline Pankhurst and Susan B. Anthony, and a Thoroughly Good Thing. As this edition was originally brought out more than ten years ago, I am quite delighted to see that it’s still in print!
