This message on the window of an Amsterdam gallery announces that “due to the cuts and increased value added tax (…) on culture, we will be at the Leidseplein from 3.30 p.m. onwards”. There, they and many others kicked up quite a stink, literally screaming about the importance of culture in these times of economic gloom.
A total of 100,000 people screamed for culture throughout the Netherlands which, in such a small country, is not at all bad.
